Truthfully my love for this quote and poem in general comes from the character I heard it from and that is Roland from Library of Ruina. Throughout the game, Roland's layers are steadily pulled back revealing what was orginally thought to be a happy go lucky charcter to be nothing more than a facade as his true personality is that of a man driven mad by the deaths of his Wife and Child. The poem is delivered piece meal style throughout the game as the player delves deeper and deeper into his psyche.

This quote while extremely heavy in it's subject matter, I think shows how ones home environment heavily shapes and teaches children in how they handle distressing events. Yozo at this stage hasn't felt a single genuine human connection for his whole life leading him to be so detached that he doesn't even feel comfortable or compelled to speak up about the abuse he suffers.
