| Tokyo Ghoul Vol. 1 By Sui Ishida |
"If you were to write a story with me in the lead role, it would certainly be... a tragedy." | This quote comes right after the main character Ken Kaneki survives a near death accident and procedes to set the stage for the rest of the story to follow with Kaneki's words ringing true as his life turns more and more into a modern day Greek tragedy.
| Prayer for Loving Sorrow By Francis Jammes |
"O my sorrow, you are better than a well-beloved: because I know that on the day of my final agony, you will be there, lying in my sheets, O sorrow, so that you might once again attempt to enter my heart." | Truthfully my love for this quote and poem in general comes from the character I heard it from and that is Roland from Library of Ruina. Throughout the game, Roland's layers are steadily pulled back revealing what was orginally thought to be a happy go lucky charcter to be nothing more than a facade as his true personality is that of a man driven mad by the deaths of his Wife and Child. The poem is delivered piece meal style throughout the game as the player delves deeper and deeper into his psyche.
| No Longer Human By Osamu Dazai |
"I believe that the reason that why I did not tell anyone about the loathsome crime perpetrated on me by the servants was not because of distrust of human beings, nor of course because of Christian teachings, but because the human beings around me had rigorously sealed me off from the world of trust or distrust." | This quote while extremely heavy in it's subject matter, I think shows how ones home environment heavily shapes and teaches children in how they handle distressing events. Yozo at this stage hasn't felt a single genuine human connection for his whole life leading him to be so detached that he doesn't even feel comfortable or compelled to speak up about the abuse he suffers.
